Apartment Inspiration Part II

As you may know (because I’ve been obsessing over it like a crazy person since we found the place), the boy and I are moved in together this weekend. While I’m, of course, excited about living with him/getting out of Roomie Dad’s house, I’m really just in it for the decorating. Kidding but not. Hopefully, you read my post about bathroom décor. If not, please check it out and let me know what you think! The other room that’s super important for me is the living room. I want it to be one of those classic, well-curated rooms you’d see in New England (think Vital’s Preppy Guidebook or anything from Sarah Vicker’s/Kiel James Patrick’s Instagram accounts). This is the hardest sell with Josh, because he thinks it’s all a little tacky. His German heritage just can’t appreciate the nod to classic Scottish culture. Sorry, bro. It will obviously take quite some time to acquire everything I’d like, but we do have a good start.

The hardest part of this is finding some of the vintage pieces. While some of it was in my grandmother’s basement (perks of having WASPy grandparents), and I did hunt at some flea markets, I found a lot of great stuff online at places like Gilt, One Kings Lane, and Joss and Main.

One Kings Lane – Legitimately the BEST place for finding vintage decor. I love this place with my whole heart.

Gilt – This is my go-to for great books. The ‘Merica books seen above are always on sale there, as well as a bunch of other really neat sets from Juniper Books – at a fraction of the cost!

Joss and Main – An amazing place for decor, I also found my Christmas present to myself an amazing bar cabinet here. Plus, every time I mention that I’m moving into a new apartment, every female I know tells me to get on Joss and Main for furniture. That speaks volumes.

When people say they’re really into the Kennedys, I have to laugh. You see, I’ve been obsessed for quite some time now. I don’t use the word obsess lightly. When the boy first saw my bedroom, and, therefore, my Kennedy bookcase, he was shocked. He knew I liked the Kennedys, but he had NO idea.

The truth is that I’m absolutely fascinated by that family, and, of course, I idolize Jackie. It’s easy to look at them on the surface and say that Jack was a spoiled playboy, and Jackie was a style icon who put up with a cheating husband for too long, but their story is much more intriguing than that.

Anyway, I’ll get off my high horse. Today marks the fiftieth annivesary of JFK’s assination (and, also, my half birthday. We have a connection), so I figured what better way to honor one of my favorite historical figures than with photos of him in his preppy best?

Delight of the Day 11/21

I don’t know about you, but I seriously adore Peter Pan collars. Sweaters, blouses, dresses – pretty much anything you could think of. That’s why today’s Delight of the Day, J.Crew’s Peter Pan Collar Dress, $148, is a no-brainer. This dress is one of those perfect styles you can wear to work, or you can add some great accessories for a night on the town. How would you style it?

Delight of the Day 11/19

“My rule is: if it’s not moving, monogram it.” – Reese Witherspoon

Girls love monograms. It’s practically in our DNA. Sweaters? Norts? Sheets? Koozies? Hats? Silverware? Yep, we’ve got it all. It’s a serious addition. (My boyfriend likes to say I can’t buy anything else with my monogram, because we’re moving in together this weekend. Until my last name is changed, I’m buying monograms. Not sorry.)  So what better way to incorporate every girl’s favorite logo with one of her favorite preppy brands? Meet Kiel James Patrick’s Monogrammed Cape Codder, $168. I’ve been eying up these adorable bags for quite a while, and now that they’ve added the monogram to them, how could I possibly turn one down? Can’t justify buying yourself another monogram? Circle back to the beginning of this paragraph – you don’t need justification. Buy one as a gift for your sister, little, best friend, etc.! Best. Gift. Ever.

Delight of the Day 11/13

22235_WE9883As you know, I’m a sucker for anything with a good tartan print. I’m also a sucker for anything from J.Crew and J.Crew Factory. So, when you put the two together, you know I’m doomed. While the naming committee at J.Crew got the type of tartan wrong (this is NOT Black Watch, people), they got everything else about the Factory Black Watch Plaid Blazer – on sale for $178 – right. Plus, you can take 30% with code {BIGSALE}, so that brings it down to $124.60! I’m picturing it paired with khakis and a good pair of riding boots. Adorable, right?

Delight of the Day 11/11

I’ve seriously been slacking. It’s not that I don’t love blogging anymore. I do. I’ve just been completely overwhelmed with getting everything ready for this move. I’m a planner by nature, so I’ve been kind of a crazy person about all this. Well, lucky for you (I know it was your 11/11 wish!) we were supposed to move in this week (although they pushed back the date a week), so I’m happy to announce that I officially have everything we could ever need and then some, so I have time to blog again 🙂

Now that the weather is getting much colder freakin’ freezing!! I’ve been all about finding a new coat. I have several knee-length coats in all the classic colors – navy, black, charcoal, and khaki, but I really want something a little more fun. Winter can be so dreary, so why not? That’s why I adore J.Crew Majesty Pea Coat, $298. The price is a little steep, but with my Rewards Card and a 25% off promo code {GOSHOP}, I think I’ll take the plunge.
