Gina Made It

I’ve always been super partial to giving Blair a run for her money headbands, and I’ve just recently gotten into bows. Sometimes, I just don’t feel like putting a ton of effort into doing my hair (it’s crazy long, okay?), and headbands and bows let me have a put-together look without requiring too much thought. What’s not to love?

photo (2)So when Gina Made It approached me about their shop, I knew I had to share it with you. The lovely ladies sent me my very own Velvet Headband and Gingham Bun Bow to test out, and I adore them. I’m happy to report that after a whole day of wearing the pretty blue headband, I didn’t have even a hint of a headband headache. (And, if you wear headbands regularly, you know what a big deal that is!) I also loved the Bun Bow. The back of my head sometimes get a little sore from having a barrette pushed up against it all day when I wear a bow under my bun, but Gina Made It’s genius design uses elastic that you can actually wrap around your bun. Brilliant!

I would definitely recommend checking out their website and adding a few to your collection. They’re adorable (so many color/pattern options!), they’re comfortable, and, at $24 per headband and $28 per bow, they’re all reasonably priced! Is anyone else thinking stocking stuffers?

Delight of the Day 9/26

I’ve feature Shop Memento before (I’m sure you remember the awesome giveaway!), but I figured it was time for a revisit. I stumbled upon their Personalized Whale Tumbler, $20. How super cute is this?! I love it as a gift for the upcoming holiday season – or just as a little reward for making it through the week. Decision, decisions.

Krass & Co. Fall Line

I may be sort of partial, but I’m obsessed with Krass and Co. Don’t get me wrong. I, much like you, have a rainbow of Norts in my drawers. The boy has had to drag me past the Nike outlet many a time. But when Pierson approached me about Krass & Co, that all changed.

Campus Crush

I don’t need to tell you how cute they are. The patterns are perfect. Quatrefoil, flamingos, sail boats? Yep – a preppy trifecta. What I do need to tell you is that these are absolutely worth the $39.95 price tag. The quality is totally unbeatable. Sometimes, I kinda feel like my Norts are falling apart after a few washes. Not these. They’re so much better made, and they’re 100% more comfortable than your average pair of running shorts. But, you’re right. Most importantly, they’re adorable.

Palm Beach

So where do you wear them? Well, just check out each pair of shorts’ descriptions. I couldn’t have worded them better myself 😉

 Sailor’s Delight

I’m also loving their line with Serengetee, another company you should definitely check out. The guys sent me a pair of their Americas to review, so expect that soon!

p.s. Use code PREPPYDELIGHT for 20% off their new fall line!

Delight of the Day 9/17

I owe you kiddos an apology. My life has been an absolute whirlwind lately. Between a full-time project management(ish) job, internet marketing consulting, apartment hunting with the boy, buying/crafting for our non-existent apartment, and starting to dabble in finding a new (used) car, I’ve been slacking on the blog posts lately. I’ve been going to my usual haunts – J.Crew, Kiel James Patrick, etc., which, in fairness, have amazing products – and highlighting their obvious choices. That’s not what I set out to do with this blog. I wanted to bring you things you might not otherwise realize are out there. Hence, today’s Delight of the Day.

Sea Bags is a seriously cool company. They take old sails and recycle them to make amazing bags. Right in America – Portland, Maine to be exact. How neat is that? So don’t me over here obsessing over their Anchor Tote. You can purchase it in three different sizes – small ($105), medium ($135), and large ($150). It’s also available in red, navy, gold, and silver. I’m partial to anything in navy with an anchor. Shocker, right?

p.s. I also love their wine bags, their baby bags, and their journals. Everything is so quintessentially New England prep!

Delight of the Day 9/13

Today’s Delight of the Day would have been the perfect accessory for my Florida Georgia Line outfit (see: Twitter). I’m so bummed I didn’t notice it before. The American Legacy Bracelet from Kiel James Patrick, $38, is the perfect touch of ‘Merica for any true patriot. Need I say more? No. I don’t believe so.

Delight of the Day 9/12

Today’s Delight of the Day is a bit unusual. Well, not unusual, but different. You may have gathered that I’m somewhat of a nerd. As such, in all my nerdy glory, I’ve been lusting after the Penguin Classics Set of 30 Books for months. Coralie Blackford-Smith designed these beautiful clothbound book covers for Penguin, and I melt when I think about how perfect they’d look on any bookshelf.Gilt periodically offers them on sale for $475 – down from $615 – as part of their Juniper Books sale.

Now, obviously I don’t need these books, and they’re clearly pretty pricey, but investments like this are the reason I have a big girl job. And I’ve been doing super well about not buying clothes since the Lilly sale, so I sort of deserve them, right? Right?

(Side note: they’re releasing more October 31! You can preorder individual books on Amazon. And I checked. Buying them through Gilt is the least expensive option, even if you buy used from Amazon or eBay.)

Delight of the Day 9/10

UNCToday’s Delight of the Day is Nike’s NCAA line of Tempo Running Shorts. We all love our norts (and Krass & Co shorts, obviously), and we all pretend to love college football. So it’s basically a no-brainer that we’d love these shorts. While they don’t carry any for Pitt (no one ever does), there are a lot of other really awesome schools featured. Which school will you be cheering for this year?

‘Merica Vases DIY

If you follow me on Instagram, you may have seen that I recently made some American Flag vases out of old Mason Jars. I promised a guide weeks ago, but I’m jusssst getting around to it. Sorry! Please feel free to ask me any questions 🙂

I started with three old mason jars. I cleaned them, let them dry, then painted (just your basic acrylic paint, about $1 at Hobby Lobby) one navy blue and two white. This took 567457 multiple coats. I then used some painter’s tape so I could get started on the stripes!

As you can see, after painting over the white with about three coats of red and letting it dry all day, when I took the tape off, there was definitely some bleeding. I just did some free-hand painting to fix this. Granted, it’s not perfect, but I kind of like the messy/homemade look.

While waiting for the stripes to dry, I got started on the stars. I found some foam stars at Hobby Lobby in the kids’ crafts section for about $2. I figured I could use the leftovers for a ‘Merica party. Always thinking of parties ahead! Anyway, I glued a few of them together to make the stamp sturdier, dipped it in white paint, and started stamping.

Unfortunately, this didn’t quite go as planned. You can see that the stars ended up being hollow/misshapen, so I ended up having to free-hand these as well. This took a long time, because you have to do a few coats. However, it was definitely worth it, because look how cute they turned out!

(I thought just one giant rose would be enough, butttt it’s not. Eventually I’ll buy additional flowers so they all look like the stars vase in the photo above!)

Just some extra info: After I let these dry overnight, I sprayed them with Krylon’s matte finish acrylic spray so that they’re less likely to chip. This pin is where I got the inspiration, and her guide is definitely more thorough than mine!

p.s. The winner of the Flyover Press giveaway is Martha from Holy Chic! Congrats!

Delight of the Day 9/4

I’ve written about Kiel James Patrick products many times before. He and Sarah Vickers just get New England prep style. They pay attention to small details no one else does, and that’s why – season after season – many of our favorite retailers are following their lead. Not surprisingly, their latest venture – apparel – is spot on. Hence, today’s Delight of the Day – the Not Penny’s Boat Oxford, $98. The teeny tiny maritime flags on this shirt makes me preppy heart skip a few beats, and I’m not even slightly exaggerating. It goes without saying that no fall wardrobe would be truly complete without this. (While you’re at it, you might as well finally order one of their Starboard Belts. You know you’ve been waiting!)

J.Crew Button Down Sale!

Not only is today the first day for Salted Caramel Mochas (or Spiced Pumpkin Lattes – if you’re into that) at Starbs, butttt J.Crew Factory is offering 50% off their button downs. Button downs are my I-don’t-feel-like-putting-thought-into-my-outfit-but-want-to-look-put-together go-tos. I have a bajillion. Seriously. So do I need more? No. That’s why I’m being really selfless and ordering some for the boy! But you should definitely feel free to be selfish and get some of your own.
